Frikar electric bike conquers Europe with its closed design and sustainable mobility (X @thepodbike)
The Frikar is a pedal-powered electric quadricycle developed by the Norwegian company Podbike, designed for comfortable and sustainable urban transportation.
After being launched in Norway and Germany, the vehicle is now also being sold in Austria and Belgium, with deliveries expected by July. Its enclosed design protects against weather conditions and strengthens the idea of practical mobility in urban centers.
Although it has pedals, the Frikar does not use chains or belts: the user’s effort is converted into energy by a generator, which powers two motors in the rear wheels. It reaches up to 25 km/h and has a range of up to 60 km per charge, with the possibility of extending it by using additional batteries.
The model accommodates one adult, offering 160 liters of luggage space, or a child seat, and supports up to 230 kg in total, weighing about 100 kg.
The Frikar includes features such as full lighting, a windshield wiper, a defroster, mirrors, an interior carpet, and a removable roof, ensuring comfort and safety. The starting price is $12,200, which may vary depending on the country.
Despite growing interest, the electric quadricycle has no planned release outside Europe, mainly because it does not fit within e-bike regulations in regions such as the United States.
